Growth in Education:

The Anderson County Junior-Senior High School is an exceptional facility for increasing educational opportunities for area youth. Evening college classes are offered through nearby accredited community colleges. GED classes are available in Garnett. State universities and junior colleges are minutes away, allowing easy commute from our community.

Growth in Health Care:

The Garnett Medical Building is a new facility with easy access to the Anderson County Hospital which is a St. Luke's
Health System facility.
The hospital offers inpatient, outpatient, geriatric psychiatry, home care, long term care, and clinics staffed by visiting physicians representing several specialties.
Many home health care providers are located in the area, allowing residents to enjoy long life to the fullest.
Garnett is also home to the Anderson County Health Dept., SEK Mental Health Center, two nursing home facilities, dentists, chiropractors, optometrist, and physicians.

Growth in Products & Services:

With the addition of major department and grocery stores, and the increase of retail businesses in commercial areas, Garnett is showing definite signs of progress.

Growth in Recreational Facilities & Programs:

The Prairie Spirit Trail offers a multi-purpose path for walking, running, bicycling, bird watching and use for persons with disabilities.

 

Garnett has over 1,000 acres of parks, including 3 lakes excellent for fishing and boating, complete with RV and wilderness camping, picnic areas, and an array of sports facilities available.
The city takes pride in its ongoing commitment to providing outstanding recreational facilities that remain unrivaled by communities of comparable size.
Lake Garnett is situated in the center of the North Park.
Surrounding the lake are some very unique facilities including a trap shooting range, pistol/rifle range, sprint go-kart, horseshoe pitching area, sand volleyball courts, baseball/softball fields, soccer fields, football stadium, tennis courts, basketball courts, playground equipment and a municipal swimming pool.
In addition, we are improving our baseball / softball facilities. This includes the development of a baseball / softball complex consisting of four fields and a centralized concession area with restrooms.
Crystal Lake, located on the south edge of Garnett, is a quite, shady area for family picnics.
RV camping facilities with electric and water hook-ups are available with a lakeside view.
Crystal Lake, also known as the south lake, is home of a Rainbow Trout season which is held in the spring whereby fishermen can catch tagged fish for prizes.
The lake is surrounded by Veterans Memorial Park.
Cedar Valley Reservoir is Garnett's largest lake facility located approximately 7 miles west of Garnett.
Water-skiing, boating, fishing and camping are popular sports at this lake.
Camping, boating and fishing permits are required at all city lakes. However, fees are very affordable. It can be said that, "Garnett's outdoor fun is second to none!"

Growth in existing facilities:

Park Plaza North is a retirement housing facility offering independent, comfortable and secure living. This retirement community is conveniently located near the North Lake Park and within walking distance of the Prairie Spirit Trail.

Garnett Public Library:

A completely automated circulation system has been installed. Over 27,000 volumes of information including audio and visual resources reside here. Internet access is available at no charge. Children as well as adults can enjoy modern surroundings.

The library hosts a thriving summer youth reading program. Perhaps its best kept secret is the Walker Art Gallery with works from such artists as John Steuart Curry, Edouard Manet and Jean Baptiste Corot. Library hours are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday 10 am-8 pm,
Wednesday and Friday 10 am-5:30 pm, and Saturday 10 am-4:00 pm.

Garnett Industrial Airport:

Major improvements have been completed at the airport, including a 2,400 foot asphalt runway with medium intensity airport lighting and lighted taxi-ways. There is a newly remodeled airport administration building. Aviation fuel can be purchased here. Hangar building sites and commercial business property is available. Future expansion plans continue in accordance with the Airport Master Plan and as the city works with state and federal agencies.

Houses of Worship:

Spiritual growth is attained through the many area churches rich in tradition and family values.

Garnett Country Club and Golf Course:

Located in the North Lake Park, the Garnett Country Club and Golf Course offers a truly lovely course where green fees are low and tee-time is anytime.
Large bent grass greens make this course of more than 5,603 yards in length very challenging.
Non-members with golf carts welcome.
Cart rental available on a self-service basis.
Club house is available and can be reserved for meetings and receptions.
